Swiss insurer Zurich will provide its suppliers with tools and resources to help them decarbonise their operations in line with the firm’s overarching ambition to achieve net zero emissions across its business. Partnering with carbon accounting firm Normative, Zurich’s suppliers will be offered free access to the Business Carbon Calculator so they can better understand the insurer’s goals, calculate their carbon footprint, and determine the practical steps they need to take to ensure they can decarbonise. “The first step to reducing emissions is calculating them,” said Kristian Rönn, Normative’s CEO. “By providing access to the Business Carbon Calculator, Zurich is empowering its suppliers – especially SMEs – to accelerate the transition to more sustainable business practices.” Seventy-five percent of the insurer’s managed procurement spend will be with suppliers that have science-based emission reduction targets by 2025 and net zero targets by 2030. Zurich aims to become a net zero emissions business by 2030. Linda Freiner, Zurich’s Group Head of Sustainability, said: “This initiative demonstrates Zurich’s commitment to emissions reduction throughout the value chain and illustrates how we use our expertise and resources to support others to transition to the net zero economy.”
If you want to become a net-zero emissions business, you can’t ignore your supply chain.
