Carbon management software firms need to innovate and implement new technological solutions that can meet the demands of companies looking to comply with climate-related disclosure requirements, according to a report by research and advisory firm Verdantix. Upcoming reporting requirements across markets – such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Disclosure Directive and the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s climate-related financial disclosure framework – mean there is going to be increasing demand for high-quality financial, climate and physical data, the report noted. Verdantix’s assessment of carbon management software firms highlighted that currently no provider has a complete product portfolio that can sufficiently cater to growing reporting needs. Software firms therefore need to rapidly evolve, the report said. Kim Knickle, Verdantix’s Research Director, said: “As firms strive to meet their net zero targets and react to changing societal expectations, there is a clear requirement for independent and accurate insight on the solutions available today – and the likely direction of future innovation.”
