The Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI) has formed an Expert Advisory Group (EAG) in anticipation of the release of its Claims Code of Practice later this year. The EAG will provide advice and consultation to the VCMI Secretariat and Steering Committee and includes environmental market and social policy experts from around the world, as well as Indigenous and community leaders from voluntary carbon market project locations. The VCMI’s Technical Director for Markets and Standards, Ana Carolina Avzaradel Szklo, will chair the EAG. The group is intended to act as a peer review mechanism for decisions related to the Claims Code of Practice, which aims to enable high-integrity voluntary carbon markets. EAG members were chosen based on their expertise across key sectors and geographies. The group includes representatives from global organizations, Indigenous community leaders, legal and accounting practitioners, and environmental and sustainability professionals. The VCMI’s mission is to enable high-integrity voluntary carbon markets that deliver “real and additional benefits to the atmosphere” and accelerate the transition to ambitious, economy-wide climate policies and regulations.
