The US Impact Investing Alliance has unveiled John Palfrey as its new Advisory Board Chair, and Tonya Allen as Co-Chair of the Presidents’ Council on Impact Investing. Palfrey, who serves as President of the MacArthur Foundation, is a longstanding champion of the Alliance and the broader impact investing field. “The Alliance plays a critical role in building the scale and success of impact investing,” Palfrey said. “To meet the challenges of our time, foundations must deploy resources across the full spectrum of capital, including grants, catalytic capital, and endowment investments that align with their mission and values. I look forward to working with the Alliance to continue expanding the reach and effectiveness of impact investing toward a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable world.” Allen, President of the McKnight Foundation, joins Don Chen, President of the Surdna Foundation, in leading the Presidents’ Council on Impact Investing, which consists of the heads of 20 US foundations with over US$80 billion in combined assets. The Council is dedicated to practicing and promoting impact investing to create a better future. Allen succeeds Darren Walker, President of the Ford Foundation, who played a key role in coordinating support for the impact investing ecosystem. Expressing her gratitude for the appointment, Allen stated: “I look forward to working alongside the Council’s members to create and pursue an ambitious shared vision for the future. Foundations can mobilise powerful capital to scale people-centred climate solutions, to build wealth in underserved communities, and to create a more just economy—and we have an even greater impact when we work together.”
