The Biden administration has launched the US’s first Action Plan on Global Water Security, which aims to advance water security domestically and internationally in recognition of the links between water and US national security. “In addition to increasing gender equity and economic growth, water security is a central element of preventing conflict and promoting global peace and stability,” a statement said. The plan has three elements: advancing the US’s contribution to global efforts to achieve universal and equitable access to sustainable, climate-resilient, safe, and effectively managed water, sanitation, and hygiene services; promoting sustainable management and protection of water resources and associated ecosystems; and ensuring that multilateral action mobilizes cooperation and promotes water security.
