The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has developed the National Carbon Registry, an open-source software to help countries manage national data and processes for trading carbon credits. The software can be customised according to national measurement, reporting and verification systems and can also be aligned to existing global platforms like the World Bank’s Climate Action Data Trust. “We need to take an open and informed approach to digital technology that promotes integration and collaboration between different sectors and actors,” said UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner, who also emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts to build digital public infrastructure that is “safe, sustainable, and inclusive for all”.
