Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, a UK-based organisation focused on investing for better health outcomes, has appointed Emma Davies as Chief Investment Officer to lead its £1 billion (US$1.24 billion) endowment. Davies’ experience in the private and third sectors includes stints at JP Morgan, Perry Capital, The Wellcome Trust, Marylebone Partners, and Octopus Ventures, where she co-led the team and helped launch the Octopus Future Generations Venture Capital Trust, which invests in businesses that support sustainability, improved societal outcomes, and measurable health impact. Davies described the foundation’s dual mandate as “ambitious and exciting” as it is “leading the way for foundations and mainstream investors in showing how we can all contribute to building a healthier society”. The foundation’s commitment to generating positive health impacts includes a £100 million allocation to impact investments, one of the largest allocations by a UK-based charitable foundation. Davies will also work to make the foundation a more responsible investor across all key ESG factors and increase its sector and peer group engagement.
