The Green Finance Institute’s Nature Programme has launched the UK Financial Institutions for Nature Group (G-FIN). The group will direct investment into UK nature recovery and identify barriers to increasing private sector finance to meet UK government ambitions, supporting an economic transition to “one that values and invests in nature”. The group will also offer feedback and input on key government initiatives where required, including the development of a national database to track progress towards HM Treasury’s target of £1 billion per annum of private sector nature investment by 2030. It will additionally evaluate the Land, Nature, and Adapted Systems Advisory Group’s recommendations on the UK’s green taxonomy’s development. The group is comprised of 20 initial financial institution members, including Aviva, Federated Hermes, Impax Asset Management, Schroders, and the UK Infrastructure Bank. Rhian-Mari Thomas, CEO at the Green Finance Institute, said: “Private sector investment is urgently needed if we hope to reach the UK’s nature goals this decade. The market infrastructure is being put in place to enable the flow of private sector capital into nature recovery and nature-based solutions, but there is still much to be done.”
