Singapore-based sovereign wealth fund Temasek has launched an investment platform, GenZero, which aims to accelerate decarbonisation globally and deliver a positive climate impact. Temasek, which has a net portfolio of US$283 billion, has committed an initial S$5 billion (US$3.6 billion) which will be invested globally in technology- and nature-based solutions as well as carbon ecosystem enablers. GenZero has already partnered with firms including Blackrock, Newlight, Climate Impact X and Global EverGreening Alliance and the project will be led by CEO-designate Frederick Teo. Temasek International’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr Steve Howard, said: “GenZero expands Temasek’s focus on deploying capital to catalyse solutions for a better world. Achieving net zero globally will require deployment of around US$5 trillion annually by 2030, to rapidly adopt and commercialise sustainable energy solutions. Its flexible approach will enable it to catalyse near- and long-term solutions to support ongoing efforts to achieve net zero globally.”
