Data and research provider Sustainable Fitch has launched a transition assessment analytical product that aims to position, differentiate and benchmark companies. The product specifically targets companies in the energy sector in the process of transitioning from carbon intensive to net zero. The tool builds on the work of the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Energy Transition Task Force and its COP 27-launched framework for transitioning companies report. Sustainable Fitch will assess each company’s transition pathway using a series of performance indicators across emissions ambition, emissions reduction and financial efforts to achieve the desired transition. The Transition Assessment methodology will be used to identify companies evolving in high-emitting sectors and assess their transition towards net zero by assigning a colour-coded rating featuring brown, light brown, olive and light green in addition to black and green. Gianluca Spinetti, Global Head of Analytics at Sustainable Fitch, said: “Transition approaches adopted by different companies are unique and specific, making them hard to compare. We have first applied this framework to the oil and gas sector with the aim of providing greater visibility on targets, commitments and actions to date.”
