Railpen Expands Renewable Energy Investments

UK-based pension manager Railpen has expanded its renewable energy investments with the acquisition of a 30 Megawatt peak (MWp) solar project in Cambridge. The project will generate clean energy to power up to 8,700 homes. Railpen’s acquisition of the Bracks solar farm from global renewable energy company BayWa r.e. follows renewable energy investments by the pension manager including the Margam and Sleaford renewable energy plants and a recent investment in battery energy storage with Constantine Energy Storage. John Milligan, Managing Director, UK & Ireland at BayWa r.e., said: “Securing reliable and economical long-term supply of domestically generated energy is more essential than ever in the face of the climate and energy crises. These projects will make an important contribution to the UK government’s ambitions in meeting its net zero emission commitment by 2050.”
