The UN-convened Net Zero Insurance Alliance (NZIA) has released a white paper to “demystify, shape and advance” net zero insurance thinking and practices globally. The paper, titled ‘Insuring the net-zero transition’, explores how the insurance industry can support the transition to a net-zero emissions economy through its risk management and insurance activities. It highlights potential underwriting approaches to achieving net zero, covering mitigation tactics including abatement, neutralisation, compensation and engagement. The NZIA, founded last July by AXA, Allianz, Aviva, Generali, Munich Re, SCOR, Swiss Re and Zurich Insurance Group, said the paper would also support its engagement strategy with policymakers, regulators and other key stakeholders.
