Environmental data solutions prover Vizzuality has unveiled a collection of global maps designed to enable businesses to assess the ecological footprint of agricultural supply chains. This tool is accessible through its LandGriffon platform, which equips industry players to measure land use, carbon emissions, and biodiversity impacts in alignment with sustainability standards. Francis Gassert, Strategy & Impact at Vizzuality, said: “If we want to solve the climate and nature crisis, everyone needs to be able to access knowledge on the impact of business on nature.” The datasets encompass critical indicators such as deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and loss of natural ecosystems, employing advanced indices like the forest integrity and biodiversity intactness. Sourced from entities like Global Forest Watch and the World Resources Institute, these datasets aim to streamline nature impact assessments across supply chains. These datasets offer a spatial accounting methodology, enabling companies to derive consistent results even with limited supplier location data. This approach ensures insights at regional or country-level inputs, fostering quicker action and informed decision-making. Vizzuality’s LandGriffon platform uses these datasets, to help companies gauge their nature impacts, set Science-Based Target Network (SBTN)-aligned goals, and prioritise sustainability initiatives.
