The 2022 Global Investor Statement has reached 602 signatories ahead of COP 27, according to an update from the Investor Agenda. This number has grown by 70 since September, with signatories’ AUM now nearly reaching US$42 trillion. The statement calls on all governments to ensure that 2030 targets in their nationally determined contributions align with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. If their targets are not aligned, the statement says that governments “must enhance and strengthen” their 2030 targets before COP27, taking into account different national circumstances. It also calls on governments to contribute to the reduction in non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions, supporting the effective implementation of the Global Methane Pledge to reduce emissions by at least 30% from 2020 levels by 2030. The Investor Agenda says its statement represents a “unified investor call on governments to implement the policy actions needed to address the climate crisis and accelerate the transition to a net zero emissions economy.”
This year, 602 investors with almost $42 trillion in AUM signed on to urge governments to implement the priority policies needed to enable large scale zero-emissions, climate-resilient investments.
