GFANZ Expands to LATAM

The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) has launched a Latin America & Caribbean Network. The new network will be guided by an advisory board chaired by Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, former Executive Secretary for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and former Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico. Other members of the advisory board include Joaquim Levy, Director of Economic Strategy and Market Relations at Banco Safra and Former Minister of Finance of Brazil, who will serve as Vice Chair. Latin America and the Caribbean contributes less than 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions yet is one of the most vulnerable regions to a diverse set of climate-related risks. The launch of the GFANZ Latin America & Caribbean Network follows the creation of the GFANZ Asia-Pacific and Africa Networks last year. Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, Chair of the GFANZ Latin America & Caribbean Network, said: “We collectively face a climate emergency that requires immediate action. The launch of the GFANZ Latin America & Caribbean Network is a crucial step towards accelerating the necessary transformations in the region. As Chair of the Network, I look forward to working with our partners to drive climate action in the region and throughout the world.”
