Financial services firm Fidelity International has appointed Emilie Goodall to the newly created role of Head of Stewardship – Europe. Goodall initially joined Fidelity in 2022 as Director – Sustainable Investing and Impact, and has almost two decades of experience in sustainable and impact finance from roles at Bridges Fund Management, Dutch development bank FMO and UK social investor CAF Venturesome. In her new role, Goodall will be responsible for leading Fidelity’s collaborative and thematic engagement with companies in the region, as well as managing the firm’s proxy voting in EMEA and Americas. She will also provide market and thematic ESG insights to the business. Jenn-Hui Tan, Global Head of Stewardship and Sustainable Investing at Fidelity, told ESG Investor that an important part of Goodall’s role will be to develop its “broader approach to system-wide stewardship”. This includes working with industry peers and regulators to build shared knowledge bases, set industry standards, and shape an “enabling environment” for sustainability in the markets the firm invests in. Tan added that Goodall’s impact finance experience provides the firm with a “fresh perspective” on lessons learnt outside the traditional asset management industry and will help Fidelity further develop an “outcome-oriented” approach to its stewardship and engagement activities. Fidelity’s Sustainable Investing team has 40 investment specialists in eight locations across Asia, Europe and the UK.
