Campaigners have called on the UK government to introduce mandatory ethnicity pay gap reporting on Ethnicity Pay Gap Day (8 January, 2023). The campaign group also said that companies should put strategies in place for closing the ethnicity pay gap. The government was due to publish guidance on the issue for employers last summer, but that has been delayed until later this year. To raise awareness among investors, responsible investment NGO ShareAction has hosted a webinar and has established a minority-led advisory committee who will meet with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to “influence” their upcoming ethnicity pay gap reporting guide. ShareAction will also be publishing an investor toolkit on the topic, as well as a briefing for MPs on ethnicity pay gap reporting. Dianne Greyson, Founder of Ethnicity Pay Gap Day, told The Voice that: “Ultimately, companies need to review the policies and practices to see if there are any barriers to people getting fair pay. There is also a need for accountability. Those in power can/should do the right thing. After all the Ethnicity Pay Gap is not a political issue it is a human rights issue.”
