The European Commission (EC) has published its list of members for the new mandate of the Platform on Sustainable Finance (PSF), as well as appointing Helena Viñes Fiestas as Chair of the platform. Viñes Fiestas is inter alia Commissioner of the Spanish Financial Markets Authority and a member of the UN High-Level Expert Group on Net Zero Pledges. She said she was “most honoured by the European Commission’s appointment”. The PSF will advise the EC on the EU Taxonomy and the EU sustainable finance framework more broadly, with a “reinforced focus on usability”, as well as monitoring the capital flows to sustainable investments. The EC selected 28 members and five observers from the private sector, based on their environmental and sustainable finance expertise. Sean Kidney, PSF member and CEO of Climate Bonds Initiative, said: “The EU Taxonomy is one of the most powerful tools we have to drive investment towards credible, ambitious efforts to meet our climate targets. Our job now is to make sure that the taxonomy is simple to understand and enables green opportunities not just in Europe but around the world.”
