UK pension scheme Railpen has published its member-focused 2022 Sustainable Ownership Review and found that climate change, the fair treatment of workers, and fair pay top the list of concerns. For the report, Railpen asked its members over 2021/22 what areas sustainable ownership they were most concerned about. The report additionally highlighted the pension scheme’s four thematic priority sustainable ownership themes – the climate transition, worth of the workforce, responsible technology, and sustainable financial markets. It also includes an overview of activity undertaken by the £34 billion (US$41.5 billion) AUM pension scheme to provide guidance to companies on workforce reporting and better engagement with their workforces, and outlines plans for the next 12 months including further engagement with members through another survey in 2023 and face-to-face member roundtables in 2024. Christine Kernoghan, Chair of The Railway Pensions Trustee, said: “It is important to understand what our members care about, and to be able to regularly report back to them on how we are considering these topics. This report demonstrates our continued commitment to investing responsibly, to be active stewards, and to hold ourselves accountable.”
