Sheila Courtney has joined global sustainability advisory firm Chronos Sustainability as Senior Manager of Responsible Chemicals. “As the risks to human health and the natural environment become clear, responsible chemicals management is moving to the top of the sustainability agenda in sectors such as apparel and pharmaceuticals,” said Nicky Amos, Managing Director at Chronos Sustainability. In the newly created role, Courtney will be focused on supporting individual companies and key industry sectors as they develop and implement responsible chemicals strategies. She will further work with investors to help them understand the ESG case for a responsible chemicals’ investment strategy. Courtney joins the firm with more than ten years of experience in pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals, holding a variety of roles across research and development, manufacturing and commercial operations. Courtney has worked at SK biotek, BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer. Dr Rory Sullivan, Chronos Sustainability’s CEO, said: “There is an urgent need to focus on chemicals, on chemicals management and on responsible chemicals as an integral part of society’s efforts to move towards net zero on climate change, towards net positive on biodiversity and towards a circular economy. These are collective action problems that require investors, companies and stakeholders to work together to develop and then implement effective solutions. Designing effective, investor-backed global responsible chemicals initiatives will be a central part of Sheila’s role with Chronos, and we are delighted that she has joined to take up this challenge.”
