Career Guide for Sustainable Finance’s Next Generation

A new guide aims to help students and early career professionals on their first steps to a career in sustainable finance. Published by UK-based consultancy Chronos Sustainability, the guide provides information on the skills, attributes and qualifications most likely to be useful in the sustainable finance sector, as well as practical insights into how to get started in the sector. ‘The Sustainable Finance Careers Guide’ draws on 17 interviews with sustainable finance professionals working for banks, institutional investors, ESG research and data providers, consultancies, regulators and industry bodies. The guide also includes chapters highlighting the types of organisations and roles involved in sustainable finance, as well as a section outlining key trends in the sector. “Much greater emphasis is being placed on quantitative skills and the ability to process and analyse data, to manage large data sets, and to integrate these data into investment models, into reports and into investment products,” said Dr Rory Sullivan, CEO Chronos Sustainability and co-author of the report. “But quantitative skills are only part of the picture. Virtually every interviewee for this report stressed the importance of good communication skills, the ability to present information and conclusions clearly, the ability to work with others and, critically, the ability to persuade others to act on sustainability”. Organisations providing commentary in the guide include Aviva Investors, CCLA, the Church Commissioners for England, Federated Hermes, Franklin Templeton, FTSE Russell, Local Pensions Partnership Investments, the Principles for Responsible Investment and WHEB Asset Management.

The practical information hub for asset owners looking to invest successfully and sustainably for the long term. As best practice evolves, we will share the news, insights and data to guide asset owners on their individual journey to ESG integration.
