Ahead of the vote on the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive by the European Parliament committee on industry, research and energy (ITRE), business and investor networks have called for “ambitious” reform. In an open letter to Members of the European Parliament, networks including Corporate Leaders Group Europe, the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change and non-profit Climate Group, emphasised the importance of the decarbonisation of the buildings sector in helping achieve the EU’s climate and energy goals. The letter underlined that economic actors in the EU are prepared to “implement an ambitious and robust legislation that can deliver improvements to the lives of millions of inhabitants in Europe, support energy security, help achieve the EU’s climate and energy ambitions, and boost the EU’s skilled green jobs”. The ITRE committee vote on the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is due to take place on 9 February.
